From the Couple:

CREATIVE ASPECT

Many of the décor items were inspired by or came directly from our home.  The cowhide rugs, lighted marquee signs, pheasant feathers, antique brooches, deer antler sheds, and deer antler mounts were all personal items.  My inspiration was to use elements of glamour like mercury votives, mercury pilsner vases, mercury pedestal bowls, antique crystal brooches, glass cloches, and fairy lights, lush floral and luxurious linens. Then tie in rustic inspiration with elements of nature by utilizing log slices, burlap linen, moss runners and balls.

FAVORITE DETAIL

My favorite detail is the deer antler stand center pieces. I conceptualized the idea and my husband and I built the stands.  I have never seen anything like this centerpiece.  My husband is an avid hunter and even models for Cabela’s.  I wanted to honor that part of his live and his love for it.  I also wanted to incorporate it in a way that was unique and beautiful.  I knew I was going to use antler sheds (individual antlers) throughout the venue in the décor of the wedding but questioned how to uniquely use the full antler mounts.  The inspiration came from a mule deer skull I have above my bed as the centerpiece of our master bedroom.  I decorated the crown of the skull with antique brooches. Everyone loves it when they see it.  It’s the perfect combination of my husband and me.

OTHER ASPECTS

The fully restored barn venue also features original art works of cows representative of the original purpose as a dairy farm. The real key was to highlight the architecture and elegance of this rustic piece of history.  I planned this wedding in 87 days with 200 guests.

MEMORABLE MOMENT

The ceremony was the most memorable part of our day. It was very nontraditional and a very personal moment.  I had a local folk indie singer performing while I walked down the aisle.  He sang one of my favorite songs by Damien Rice, “Blowers Daughter.”  The ceremony was nontraditional with an Irish friend becoming ordained to marry us.  Being Irish, he told jokes about whiskey and had everyone laughing.  When it came to the vows, my husband and I wrote our own vows.  We were very emotional as both of us had waited 37 years to find true love and get married.  Our beloved lab Zeus laid down and watched quietly…the perfect dog that he always his.

BRIDE’S ADVICE

No matter how much you think you can do everything yourself, having a “day of planner” really takes a lot of stress away from the bride and groom.

This day is about the love between two people. Try not to let the ideas behind a traditional wedding get in the way of your love and how you want to celebrate.  For example, my groom wore jeans and boots with his jacket, vest, shirt and tie. Also we didn’t have bridesmaids or groomsmen it was all about us finally finding love.

Unconventional ideas can make for an AMAZING wedding!  We started with a cocktail hour and live music like a Friday night happy hour, we then asked everyone to find their dinner seats and got married at the front of the room.  Dinner was served family style and then instead of cake, we did a mini dessert bar and smores bar by the fire for guests.  Guests were commenting for months later how relaxed the event was and how easily it flowed and that every aspect was so intimate and engaging.

Lastly the day goes by so fast…cherish every moment.
