From the Photographer:
Emilee & Ben wanted an intimate wedding ceremony and festivities for their closest friends and family. And the The Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee, WI was a perfect venue for them! The outdoor terrace where the ceremony was held has an amazing view of the 6th Street Bridge. The Library Room where guests ate brunch and mingled afterwards is full of books…and both Ben & Emilee are avid readers! And the urban hotel has a funky warehouse feel that they love!
This was one of the most personal weddings I photographed last year. Emilee & Ben focused on what was most important to them, and skipped the traditions that weren’t. There was no wedding party, no first dance, no cameras during the ceremony (except mine of course)! But there was also no lack of personal and DIY details.
After getting dressed at home, the couple started their day under their favorite willow tree, a spot that they often visit. Then they met family in the parking lot next to The Iron Horse Hotel for some of the most urban family formals I’ve ever taken! The ceremony was held on in the courtyard just on the other side of the hotel. The bride’s sister officiated the ceremony. And close friends of the couple performed readings. Afterwards, everybody gathered in the Library Room for a delicious brunch and Mimosa bar!
The library themed reception decor featured in the Library Room was done completely by the bride with the help of a friend. They started with fresh cut flowers, simply arranged in mason jars with burlap and lace touches. Old books were stacked and used to raise a few of the flower arrangements and to cap the end of the two long tables. To stay within their budget, several items were brought from home – the frames, potted plants, candle holders, etc. But the highlight was the library themed “checkout” place cards that were made for each guest!
