From the Couple:

I handmade a lot of our decorations, which added a much more personal touch.  It was nice to get the satisfaction of seeing all of it together at the ceremony site.  We incorporated a lot of items from both of our families and farms.  We had the ring bearers carry a sign that said “Here comes the love of your life…”  We wanted our wedding party to be comfortable and let them have a say in what they were going to wear.  My bridesmaids wore lace summer dresses that we found at JC Penney’s and our groomsmen wore a plaid shirt that we also found at JC Penney’s.  It was cost effective and allowed us to pay for it, rather than put that burden on our wedding party.

Our ceremony site, under a large cottonwood tree and our vows.  We had a close family friend perform the ceremony, and it was perfect.  Our vows fit us perfectly, and had such a personal touch to them.  We wanted everybody to be comfortable at our wedding.  That was the most important aspect that we wanted for our guests.  We had a lot of compliments on how relaxed and romantic our wedding was.

Getting to see my husband for the first time, walking down the aisle.  We did not see each other all day and getting to see him for the first time was such a great feeling.  Also, getting to see all of our family and friends.  We wouldn’t be where we are without our family and friends and it was just the perfect night to celebrate with them all.  Being able to relax and soak everything in.

Keep an open line of communication with all of your vendors.  It helps you stay relaxed throughout the process.  They want your day to be just as successful as you do.  Plan ahead and put a timeline together.  By the time the wedding day rolled around, I was so relaxed and felt like I had a lot of time to take everything in.  The day flies by, so the less you have packed into the day, the better.  We had a perfect timeline with our DJ and photographer, that kept the ball rolling for the ceremony and reception, so we never had to worry.  Planning the wedding ourselves, it was so important to have our venue the day before, of and after.  It allowed us to get all of the big stuff done the day before and enjoy the day of our wedding.  Once our wedding was over, we were able to close the doors and come back the next day to clean up.
