When my friends, Ashley and Brandon, realized that their dreams of a tropical destination wedding weren’t going to come true, they decided to compromise and hold an outdoor beach-themed wedding in Philadelphia, where they both now live. The environment in Philadelphia is a far cry from the shore, but they have found several ways to bring the shore to the city with many unique and creative details, from the décor to the seashell wedding favors! Ashley mentioned that she got a ton of ideas while browsing for online retailers, like American Bridal, that sell wedding accessories for any party theme. If you’re having a shoreline ceremony in the city, here are some ways to bring the beach to you on your wedding day!

Bridesmaid/Groomsmen Gifts – Give your girls monogrammed beach totes filled with summer essentials, like flip flops, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a floppy straw hat! Perfect for when you all have a girl’s vacation at the beach this summer! Your man can give his guys personalized can and bottle Koozies, beach coolers, and their favorite beach games—horseshoes, ladder ball, cornhole, etc!

Table Decorations – Set the table with beachy placecard holders that could even double as picture frame wedding favors. Add to the table a few seashell tea lights or candles, and a tropical floral arrangement, and you will be all set!

Color Tones – Keep the colors light and airy for a shoreline celebration. White, beige, and blue tones always create a summery, coastal environment, and a few yellow details can add some bright sunny touches! Keep this color palate in mind when choosing your tablecloths, napkins, curtains, and any drapery for your ceremony. Use stripes and solids, and flowy fabrics to keep the breezy beach vibe going!

Food – Tell your caterer to create a seafood spread for your guests…include shrimp cocktail, lobster tails an oyster bar, and sea bass filet if something like this is within your budget. If not, you can always bring shore memories alive with boardwalk fries, soft-serve ice cream, salt water taffy, and fresh-squeezed lemonade!

Wedding Favors – Giving out beach-themed favors is a great way to remind your guests of the shore, and will allow them to take a piece of the beach home with them! Consider giving out nautical tea-light holders, or lanterns that can add to warm-weather décor!
