Your best friend is getting married and she’s asked you to be her bridesmaid. Of course you are thrilled, but you’ve never been a bridesmaid before and you’re really not sure what it entails. Here are some tips to help you, so you’ll get it just right on the day.
Choosing a Dress
The bride will let you know what color and style of dress she want her bridesmaids to wear. She may want everyone to wear the same style dress, or she may let you pick out individual dresses. A beautiful as your bridesmaid dress will be, it’s not usually something that you will wear again. If you want to save money, it’s worth considering pre-owned or used bridesmaid dresses. Many of these dresses have designer labels, they’re all in excellent condition and there is a wide range of styles and colors to choose from.
Coordinate with the Other Bridesmaids
You may or may not have met the other bridesmaids before, but it is important to be friendly with them and make sure everyone is up to speed with what’s going on. It’s possible that not everyone will be able to give up the same amount of time to help. Some of the bridesmaids may be coming to the wedding form out of town, for instance. Find out who’s doing what and what needs to be done, for example, the bride may need someone to take her wedding dress home, to hand out tip envelopes, or to collect personal items such as the bride and groom’s engraved champagne glasses when the wedding is over.
Throw her a Bridal Shower
A bridal shower is one thing that the bridesmaids arrange for the bride, and you can all contribute to. You will need to choose a venue, send out invites to the bride’s friends, decorate the venue and provide something to eat. The event should be lighthearted; it’s all about celebrating the upcoming wedding.
Help with the Organization
The bride has a lot of things to plan, as her bridesmaid you can be a true helper. From help with invitations to keeping track of wedding gifts, she will certainly appreciate your assistance. And if she’s starting to get overwhelmed by it all, then it’s your job to order a take-out and a movie so you can have a girl’s night in.
Throw a Bachelorette Party
Whether it’s a night out in your local town or a trip to Vegas, throw the bride whatever kind of party she wants. Take care of your friend and make sure she has a good time. It’s always best to have the party at least a few days before the wedding, so she has time to recover from all the fun.
Following these tips can help you be a great bridesmaid, but most of all remember to be there when your friend needs you, and always be supportive. There will be times when she feels stressed and may be emotional. Listen to her concerns and offer helpful comments and above all, keep a positive attitude.
