The duties of a “wedding planner” range with a varying degree, some of them are glamorous things like assisting with centerpiece ideas or creating that “ooh la la” effect. However, sometimes these duties can be pretty lackluster- like when you have to play bathroom police because a few unruly children are tossing toilet paper around and making an unsanitary mess. Yes, my job comes with the good, the bad and the ugly. Yet, I wouldn’t change a thing because my couples’ happiness is my happiness. As a wedding planner it’s also my job to educate my clients on all things wedding- from budgets to choosing the right vendors. I not only assist my lovely clients on finding a vision, but I’m also there for any questions, comments and/or concerns they might have regarding a multitude of wedding related tasks. It’s my job to be there for my clients in the biggest and in the tiniest of ways. And one of the tiniest details that often goes overlooked is “how to cut your wedding cake”. Over the years I have found that a bride and groom can plan out every single detail regarding their wedding cake from flavor to colors to how many tiers but when it comes to the actual cake cutting the couple will freeze in fear. I remember feeling the same way at my wedding. In fact, looking back it was just a big blur of panic and listening with half an ear as our photographer gave us instructions.
Time and time again, I find that everything will go off without a hitch- everyone will oooh and aaahh over the 1st dance and cry at the toasts but then it’s cake cutting time. This is where my couples have the deer in the headlight look, “what do I do!?” seems to be glued to their faces and I can see abject fear in their eyes. So the photographer will often step in and explain to them what to do but they still look awkward, uncomfortable and flustered. So, I thought to myself, “Self, I wish I had an instructional video I could email to my clients that could explain this process before their wedding day”. Shockingly after a thorough YouTube search I found nothing. Soon after my research, I contacted Rex from Drawn in Media about creating such a video for my clients. Something educational but also a little entertaining was required since I wanted to capture their attention and not bore them to death. I believe we worked out a perfect combination of both and with the help of a few other awesome vendors listed. We made a video that captured the pivotal pieces of the cake cutting puzzle. Since I feel like it is my job to educate all those planning a wedding, I wanted to share this information with as many brides and grooms as possible. Enjoy!!
