From the Bride:
From the early stages of planning our wedding, George and I knew we wanted our special day to truly represent us. We met in San Diego and it only seemed fitting that we marry here. Both of us are not originally from California and many of our guests would be flying in from out of town, visiting the Golden State for the first time, so we wanted them to experience the lifestyle we have grown accustom to. A big part of our lives is centered around the ocean. George spends half the year on the water for work, and we live close to the beach and enjoy soaking up the sun. We wanted to play off this and decided having our wedding right on the beach was a must. This certainly helped shape the overall theme for the wedding.
We incorporated natural elements found on the beach such as sand, driftwood and shells, but were also inspired by other surroundings. Succulents were used as our main floral component. Not only are they everywhere in San Diego, but they’re also really easy to take care, and we felt this played into the natural and laid back vibe we were going for. Pulling dark blue from the deep water of the ocean and various shades of teal from the succulents helped establish the color palette for the wedding. We tapped into our own personal style to help shape the overall style of the wedding. We were able to incorporate some coastal décor from our home, we stained store bought lanterns to fit our style, and we (by we, I mean George) even personally built some of the wedding décor, such as the sign we used to welcome guests. Playing off our lifestyle and adding these personal touches helped represent us, which again, was our ultimate goal for our wedding day.
