From the moment Duncan and I got engaged, we knew we wanted to incorporate our incredibly talented friends and family members into the process of making our dream wedding come to life. Thankfully, all of our friends and family were more than happy to help in any way they could so we all got to work right away! One of our childhood best friends did all of our designing for the invitation suite, other paper goods, and hand lettering on all signs. A good friend of ours from our alma mater, Abilene Christian University, is incredibly talented with all things flower-related. Our wedding was her very first wedding to do the floral arrangements for, and she did an amazing job. My wedding veil was hand-made by my mom and maternal grandmother as a wedding gift to me. All of the food for our appetizer table was hand-selected and put together by me, my bridal party, and other family members. I wanted non-traditional bridesmaid dresses but with only a few months to spare, once I decided on the color and style of their dresses, we found them just in time!

Duncan’s most memorable moment of our day was seeing me walk down the aisle and knowing we were standing there with all of our closest friends standing around us in support and affirmation of our marriage. My most memorable moment of our day was reading our vows to one another, as we had kept them a secret until the ceremony! It was so special hearing the words he had prayed and thought about spoken over me in front of everyone I love and care about.

We did not have a theme for our wedding; however, we did have a style that we wanted to work with. So, our final wedding style was romantic and natural. We wanted the ceremony and reception to feel organic and laidback! Our colors consisted of differing hues of blush, nude, white, green, and navy.

Duncan’s favorite three details were: the lighting (we had strung-lighting under the barn, from tree-to-tree, and hung in the trees), the dinner table set-up we used so that everyone could eat close together, and the white chairs we rented! Alexandra has a hard time picking a favorite detail… there were so many! But if she had to choose one, it would be the joy that was felt by everyone. It might sound weird, but all of the hard work, sweat, and tears that went into the wedding paled in comparison to the joy that was felt on October 29. It was evident to all on the day of, and it is evident in the pictures as well. It made for the entire day to be perfect and so fun to remember!

Make sure you have at least one other person who understands your vision for your wedding day. It is so helpful to be able to run ideas by them or have them help you attack that growing to-do list because they get the little and big details you are trying to bring to life! Don’t be afraid to think outside of the Pinterest-inspired box; a lot of my favorite details from our wedding day were specific to us, which would not have been possible if I copied everything from other weddings I had seen. And remember, at the end of the day, you are getting married because you are madly in love with your soon-to-be spouse. So no matter what comes your way (last-minute cancellations, budget stress, guest list disagreements, weather issues, etc.) do what feels best with you and your fiancé because at the end of the day this is your wedding and it is going to be better than your wildest dreams in the end. Guaranteed. Why? Because at the end of it all, you’ll be married to the love of your life, and nothing is better than that!
