Spring is a glorious time of year. Daylight savings time means the evenings are suddenly lighter and longer and springtime flowers are just starting to bloom, which means wedding venue grounds around the country are looking gorgeous. It goes without saying, then, that the spring months are perfect for a picturesque outdoor wedding.
If you’re planning a spring wedding with an outdoor ceremony, you’ve probably already put some serious thought into the type of dress you’ll wear. Outdoor ceremonies are beautiful, but they do pose a fair amount of logistical (and stylistic) questions when it comes to the dress. That being said, we’ve found outdoor ceremonies to offer an opportunity for brides to choose a dress that’s a little more unusual or unique to fit with their outdoor theme.
We’ve pulled together a (by no means exhaustive) list of some of the most unique, unusual, downright gorgeous wedding dresses that we think are perfect for all kinds of different outdoor wedding ceremonies.
Unusual Wedding Dresses for an English Countryside Ceremony
The English countryside is a thing of beauty in the spring. Beautiful, vast, golden fields of rapeseed provide the perfect backdrop for countryside photos, while the grounds of country venues will be in full bloom with daffodils, forget-me-nots, bluebells and a plethora of other gorgeous spring flowers.
In fitting with all those stunning blooms, we think these floral wedding dresses are unusually perfect for a countryside ceremony.
The gorgeous ‘Holly’ dress by Emma Victoria Payne is perfect for an outdoor English countryside wedding ceremony. With its delicate floral embroidery and cascading tulle, this dress has the potential to provide some breathtaking photos on your big day!
Blossom Dress by Sassi Holford
The ‘Blossom’ dress by designer Sassi Holford is handmade and features a vibrant and intricate floral pattern. It’s a real show-stopper of a dress, guaranteed to make you stand out on your big day, while simultaneously helping you blend seamlessly into your countryside setting.
Fairytale Wedding Dresses for a Woodland Ceremony
Let’s face it: ever since we all set eyes on Edward & Bella’s fairytale woodland wedding ceremony in Twilight, we’ve all (secretly) dreamt that our own weddings could be so beautiful.
Plus, that dress… WOW.
Well, we might not be able to provide the fairytale woodland backdrop, but we’ve got unique, fairytale wedding dress inspiration in abundance!
Layton Dress by Maggie Sottero
The ‘Layton’ dress by Maggie Sottero has just the right amount of train to give you that wow factor, without being too cumbersome for a woodland ceremony. Adorned with delicate beading, pearls and Swarovski crystals, this dress has got fairytale written all over it.
Bonaparte Dress by French Knot Couture
The ‘Bonaparte’ dress from French Knot Couture is beautifully dreamy. It has a watercolour floral design that comes in a variety of colours and patterns, as well as the ‘Blue Blossom’ pattern shown in the image. Handmade from silk/cotton voile, it’s light and airy with silk flowers at the neckline, which makes it oh so dreamy!
Unusual Dresses for a Picturesque Rooftop Ceremony
Rooftop wedding ceremonies are the stuff of dreams. 360 skyline views, light breezes that create poetry in motion through wedding dresses and (dare we dream) kaleidoscopic sunsets can make for some of the most jaw-dropping wedding photos.
But those poetic, fluttering dress shots only happen if you’ve got a suitably stunning wedding gown…
Morning Dress by Caroline Castigliano
The ‘Morning’ dress by Caroline Castigliano is lined in chantilly lace and has a beautifully fluid silk georgette skirt that curves at the back into a mini train. Pair it with a floor-length organza or tulle veil and you’re set for beautiful wind-dancing photographs.
Alexandra Dress by Galia Lahav
The ‘Alexandra’ dress from designer Galia Lahav is a mermaid-style dress made from exquisite silk. Featuring side basques and a detachable overskirt this dress is simply dazzling and perfect for a show-stopping rooftop wedding.
Unusual Wedding Dresses for a Ceremony on the Beach
Picture this: a sun-kissed tropical island with white sandy beaches, set for a beach wedding ceremony in paradise. Sounds dreamy, right?
Stargrove Dress by Claire La Faye
The ‘Stargrove’ dress by Claire La Faye is a sequined, sunset beach ceremony dream. Imagine the stunning light show as the sun sets and the sequins dance and shine. It’s a simple, yet beautiful A-line dress that is sure to turn heads (and keep you cool) on any tropical island beach!
Sequin Tonal Lace Dress by Ellis
The ‘Sequin Tonal Lace’ dress by Ellis Bridal is beautifully romantic, with layers of soft tulle, embellished with hand-placed lace to give a soft sweetheart silhouette. With sequins that enhance the metallic lace, this is another dress that was made for catching those beach sunset rays!
